Used in a formula column, the DAY() function extracts the day of the month from a date-type column and returns a whole number between 1 and 31. It is used to sort, filter, or trigger rules based on the day of the month, for example to identify deadlines falling at the beginning or end of the month.

Extract the day of the month
For a date on the 15th of the month, the formula returns 15.
DAY($Date)
Do not confuse: DAY() returns the day of the month, while DAY_IN_WEEK() returns the day of the week.
