Protect a column: encrypt, mark, set conditions

These settings protect one specific piece of data, column by column. Only the encrypted field protects the data itself.

1. Which settings protect a column?

Mechanism	What it protects
Encrypted field	Encrypts the data, including on the server side. The only mechanism that protects the data itself. Sensitive from creation: excluded from exports automatically.
GDPR / confidential marking	Flags personal data to exclude it from FTP / SFTP and Metabase exports. Hides nothing in the application. The encrypted field is marked automatically.
APPLY_MASK()	Displays only part of the value. To be combined with a restriction, otherwise it protects nothing.
Conditional visibility	Displays the field only if a condition is met.
