The Incoming Webhook trigger starts a TimeTonic automation when an external tool sends an HTTP request to a dedicated URL.
The external tool can be an external automation tool, a website form or a custom script. The content of the call, in JSON format, becomes variables you can use in your actions.
You need: a TimeTonic automation with this trigger, and a tool that can send a POST request to the generated URL.
It connects TimeTonic to your other services: each external event can create or update a row, then run your actions. These are the most common use cases.
Create a row from an external form
A form filled in on a website automatically creates a row in TimeTonic.
Receive data from a third-party app
A CRM or a prospecting tool sends its data to a TimeTonic table to centralize it.
Update an existing row
A status change in another system updates the matching row.
Trigger an automation
An external event starts an automation scenario: new sale, new contact, new ticket.
Synchronize part of the data
Only the information a team needs goes from the business tool to TimeTonic.
2. What does the configuration window contain?
Read the Webhook trigger window from top to bottom. Three numbered areas set the security, the incoming data and the targeted row.
1. Webhook password
Protects the URL: without a password, every call is accepted.
2. Data structure
Turns the properties of the received JSON into local variables.
3. Row identification
Chooses between creating a row, finding it by its ID or by a field value.
3. How do I secure the webhook with a password?
The password is optional. If you set one, TimeTonic only accepts calls that carry the right signature. Without a password, every call is accepted with no check.
3.1 Call the webhook without a password
No authentication is required. The HTTP request is sent without any additional header.
