TimeTonic is built from a few pieces that fit together: a workspace holds tables, tables are connected by links, and views, filters and sorts decide what each person sees. This article walks through them in that order, in six steps.
The workspace
It is the structuring element of TimeTonic. A workspace gathers the data of one activity. It can be personal, or collaborative by inviting other people, with finely tuned access. A workspace can contain several tables. Its screen reads in four areas:

Tables
A table is a set of data organized in rows and columns, handled much like a spreadsheet sheet. Each row is a record (a contact, for example). Each column is a piece of information about that record (name, address, phone, photo). Seen from the record view, a column is called a field.
A table can mix around thirty column types: text, number, date, checkbox, selection list, Link to another table, attachments, comments, and more.

Links
A link is a bridge between two tables: it lets their data communicate. The column that carries it is called Link to another table.
To display a piece of the position in the Contacts table, the department for instance, you then add a Column from a linked table: it brings back a field from the records already attached.

Views
A view is an organization of a table's data: its filters, its sorts, its displayed columns. It serves to work with the data, but also to guide your collaborators and control access to some information. A table can have as many views as needed.
Views also apply to links: to offer only vacant positions when attaching a contact, create a view filtered on those positions and apply it to the Link to another table column.

Filters and sorts
Filters display only the records useful to your process. Each column type has its own set of filters: dates, for example, come with a whole range. Sorts order the data so the right information comes up in the right place. Filters and sorts are set view by view.

The mirror workspace
A mirror workspace contains only views coming from other workspaces. Combined with views, filters and sorts, it gives your collaborators exactly the data they need, with no access to the structure or to sensitive data.
