1. Why choose a view on a link column?
The selected view decides which rows and columns of the linked table show in the record. It also applies its restrictions: read-only or invisible columns.
Each person sees and edits only what concerns them, based on their role.
2. How do you select the view of a link column?
You select it from the record, on the link column.
1
Set up the views of the linked table
One view per use, with its restrictions: Read / Write, Read-only or Invisible.
3
Open a record
Find the link column and click its three dots ⋮.
4
Select the configured view
The column shows the rows and columns of this view, with its restrictions.
5
Choose the display mode
Table, Tile or Label, depending on how many links and fields to show.
For more comfortable entry: expand the record to full screen.
3. Which display mode should you choose?
The display mode sets how much information shows for each link.
Mode
What it shows
Best when
Label
Only the link title. This is the most concise display.
Many links, no detail
Tile
The title, the first column of the link and the three following columns.
A few links and few fields
Table
The linked table itself. This is the most complete display.
Many links and many fields
4. Example: an annual review between employee and manager
A review is filled in by two people. One view per role protects each person's part.
Employee view
The Manager column is read-only. Information the employee does not need is invisible.
Manager view
The employee's evaluation column is read-only. The manager completes their part.
Result
Each person fills in their part of the record without being able to change the other's.
5. What should you do in a mirror workspace?
In a mirror workspace, a link column with no selected view shows no data.
